Samburu of Kenya

Daniel’s Monthly Prayer Request

The photo shows a Samburu bride, her body smeared with red ochre, wearing the skin of goats and sheep for clothing and shoes made with the skin of a lion. She follows her future husband, with her head bowed down, to their new life. Although I had looked at this picture several times, the symbolism hit me like a brick today. She wears the skins of animals for a covering; lion and lambs. The red ochre appears to me as a covering of blood and she follows the bridegroom in submissive obedience. But she knows nothing of these Biblical images. Won’t you join in prayer that this young bride and many like her will come to know Christ as Savior and Lord? That she will understand His blood was shed once for the covering of all sins for those who will believe and that her life will be a lovely picture of the bride of Christ following Him in perfect submission and obedience. Pray for opportunities to reach all of Samburu with the message of peace, hope and reconciliation to the God of all mankind through His blessed son Jesus.

There are over 100,000 Samburu living in an area of approximately 12,500 square miles. In order for all Samburu to have an opportunity to hear the Gospel, there must be a movement of God among the people themselves. The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the workers truly are few. There are few evangelical missionaries of any kind ministering in this area and many of the people live in areas which cannot be accessed by car or truck. In fact, there are no paved roads in the entire district of Samburu; progress and development seems to have forgotten this part of Kenya. But God has not forgotten and He has a plan for reaching the thousands and ten thousands. Join us in praying that God will raise up believers from each village who will take the news of God to their neighbors in the next village. And from there, someone will continue to the next village…and so on, until all have heard the Good News of God.

These days the dirt these days is as dry and fine and talcum powder. There has been no rain for quite some time. We are in another very dry spell where people must walk much farther for water and animals don’t get enough to keep up milk production. Although the land is dry and infertile, God has prepared the hearts of the Samburu people and they are ready to listen to the Gospel. Many have a keen desire to hear and understand what the Bible says. Pray for missionaries to have wisdom and discernment in explaining God’s message to a people who are not able to read the scriptures for themselves. Pray that God will send physical and spiritual rain to water the thirsty land and souls.
