Wednesday, March 19, 2008, Daily Nation Headline News: Historic moment – Road cleared for Raila to become Prime Minister as Kibaki signs bill into law – Move creates grand coalition – MPs seek to heal divided country ( http://www.nationmedia.com/dailynation/nmgindex.asp )
Yes, this is good and welcomed news. It is definitely the answer to prayer. The road ahead for Kenya will still have many difficult moments and healing will take time. Thousands are still in displacement camps. It will take years before their lives are “normal” again. Keep praying for Kenya and they move toward healing and building a peaceful nation. Pray especially for the many, many people in Kenya and in neighboring countries who do not claim our Savior’s peace.
Yesterday as I prepared the update, I erased part of the Bible verses I had included as I wrote about the Samburu People. I did this to shorten the prayer item, but I can’t forget how God used Hebrews 12:14-15 t to speak to me– “Make every effort to live in peace with all men and be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one missed the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”
As I read this verse I found myself excitedly thinking “What If” questions again. WHAT IF the Samburu became a tribal group that were fully reached with the gospel? What IF they became mature and multiplying disciples? WHAT IF they claimed Hebrews 12:14-15 and “saw to it that their neighboring people groups did not miss the grace of God”? WHAT IF they took a stand to let “no bitter root grew up to cause trouble” in their part of Kenya, in their part of our world?
The Samburu are surrounded by the Pokot, the Kalenjin, the Turkana, the Teso and many other groups that are among the unreached with the gospel. Some of these groups are considered reached, but actions of the last few weeks show that they don’t live by Hebrews 12:14-15. WHAT IF the Samburu were able to share God’s peace with the Pokot, the Kalenjin, the Turkana, the Teso? WHAT IF these people then shared God’s love and salvation with their neighbors in Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Tanzania? WHAT IF all the people groups in these countries were reached and the circle of reached spread to other neighbouring countries including Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo? This is how Africa and our world will be reached with the gospel. Missionaries from other countries cannot do this job alone, it will take Africans and others sharing their faith with their families and neighbors as in New Testament days.
So today will you join the missionaries who work with the Samburu in praying for the miracle that I envisaged when I read Hebrews 12:14-15? Will you join them in praying their End Vision: “For every Samburu man, woman and child to have the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We will do this by planting reproducing churches in villages and population centers, requiring thousands of churches. As this is accomplished these reproducing churches will carry the Gospel and the vision into the neighboring tribes of Pokot and Turkana. HABAKKUK 2:3” Bert Yates
