Samburu of Kenya

Back in Kenya

Posted on April 4, 2008 - Filed Under General News |

It seems like a blink ago, we were in the States and now we are definitely in Africa. The traffic of Nairobi, the backward way so many things are done and the slow pace of life are all clear indicators of our new location. It is good to be back and it feels “right”, but of course we always miss our families so far away. We are trusting the Lord will take care of Sam as he faces his first taste of life on his own and pray that he will cling tightly to the Father who is always with us. Joseph wonders if Sam will always be away and says that when Sam comes to visit he should stay in Maralal forever. While riding in the truck today, he observed that “there used to be another boy in this truck.” He misses Sam and is beginning to show real signs of being homesick for Maralal as we wait in Nairobi for our house to be ready. We plan to return on Monday, which is only a few days away, but it has seemed long to Joseph.

We arrived late Monday night and still have not figured out the correct time to eat and sleep, but we almost made it all day without a nap. Officially, we called our late afternoon rest “movie time”, but there were a few nodding off times, as well. All hope is cast that Joseph will sleep all night long tonight and not wake at 3 or 4 a.m. Every day is easier and more productive and we really have just about all of our “rat killing” done. We are excited about seeing the improvements on our house. Several floors had been damaged by water flooding in during heavy rains so those have been replaced and the drainage improved. I am looking forward to being in my own bed, my own sofa and getting the dog on a diet. We hear she has gotten fat, fat. I know the caretaker overfeeds her when we are gone. He doesn’t understand that it is bad for her and of course she eats all she is given. And we have our own “furlough fluff” to get rid of, as well.

Continue in your prayers for us and for the Samburu. My apologies if this update is sketchy and/or difficult to understand. It’s been a long day. My computer says 1 pm; my watch says 9 pm. Whichever it is, I’m calling it quits.
