Belated Merry Christmas to all of yall across the world. Hope that your holiday was everything you wanted it to be and that the Savior was foremost in your celebration. Charlie has taken some time off during Christmas and I know Joseph is going to miss him when he resumes his regular work schedule. As long as he was off, I must have subconsciously wanted to have a vacation as well.
While he was doing some work on the house, I picked up a wooden shutter and promptly dropped it on my foot. That was last week and it is still bruised, sore and Im not sure if I broke something or not. It is getting better, and Ive spent a lot of time in Charlies recliner. I havent washed dishes in a week and weve just about eaten every pre-frozen meal Id stored up. Not that I was planning this, mind you. But its always nice to have something ready to eat in the land without restaurants.
Weve had a great time the last couple days playing with Lincoln Logs, castles, swords and all the other new toys. We are still waiting on a couple packages to arrive, so when they get here, we can do it all over again. And, Ive enjoyed the outdoor lights Charlie put up this year so much, that Im considering leaving some up all year long. We were also blessed to be able to reach Sam on the phone early Christmas morning (our time; late Christmas Eve in Texas). He and a friend have moved in with Travis and his creative bunch of friends and he said its great. They had already been to dinner at Charlies moms and were planning to go to my brothers home for dinner on Christmas Day. For some reason, they were driving around looking for buttermilk to make hushpuppies. It was good to hear that things are going well and everyone is happy. He has good prospects for a job with his previous Dallas employer after the New Year.
Finally, I want to thank all of you who have given to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering which provides such a large portion of our financial support. We are so grateful to the generous gifts which help supply our housing, vehicle, medical care, childrens education needs and more. If you have not contributed, there is still time. PS Heres a little poem I wrote while resting my foot!
Twas the night before Christmas and all thru the house,
Not a creature was baking, not even my spouse.
The week before I had bonked up my foot
And now I was chair-bound and had to stay put.
But I just couldnt bear the thought of The Day
Appearing without a few sweets stashed away.
A few days before the spouse had made candy,
With pretzels and Rolos and, yum, they were dandy.
But something about the lights and the tree
Calls for grandmas sugar cookies, to me.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear?
But a four foot tall helper, overflowing with cheer.
He cracked all the eggs and added the flour.
The kitchen and he would need a good scour.
In sugar, in butter, on counter and floor.
And now the dog appears at the door.
I know what shes thinking, her tail all a-wag.
Whatever gets dropped, she licks up; thats her bag.
Then into the oven, a few minutes to bake.
Now frosting and sugar; what a mess, for Petes sake.
But all will be worth it when in years to come
The children remember the fun things weve done.
And now as I leave all the mess for another
Merry Christmas to all, especially my mother.
