Food Relief Notes from Week of Aug. 10

A couple of notes on the food distribution this week:

After deliveries were made on Wednesday, it rained! People said that God was
truly blessing them and they were very grateful. It didn’t rain everywhere,
but it did rain at one of the villages where food was delivered. These folks
are good people who have maintained their Baptist church for many years and
through many difficulties. They have had trouble keeping a pastor here, but
they persist in spite of it all. They were one of the first Baptist churches
started in Samburu district and one of very few who continue with or without
a missionary presence.

Distribution on Thursday was done at the Baptist church in
Maralal town. Many different areas were helped on this day. Most were very
peaceful and cooperative. One old woman said she had been praying that God
would bring her some food. She was rejoicing that He had answered her
request. Too weak to carry the food herself, she hired someone to bring it
to her home. When he arrived, he demanded that she divide the food and give
some to him. She refused, telling him that she “had not prayed to God for
him to receive food”, but for herself and God had answered. Beside, she had
agreed to pay him (a fair price) for his help. In my mind, he should have
done it for free, just to help an old widow! We are happy her prayers were
answered and we hope that many others see this as a gift from God.

Saturday, August 15, 2009 1:00 pm: Charlie is up in the forest right now. He
says it is amazing and organized. There are 6 choirs singing and the old men
have organized the younger men to help with the work. Great news! Praise the
Lord!
