Eighty Pokot men and women (a neighboring tribe of the Samburu who are = considered a bitter enemy) heard the Gospel last night and this morning because 7 = Samburu men were obedient to the call of Christ to preach the gospel to every nation, tribe and tongue. As a result these Pokot want to know, “How do we = start a church of our own down here?” Praise be to God!

Above is a blog post from Charlie from October = 9th. What a breakthrough it is for these men to walk five hours down the mountain = and across the Rift Valley to take the News of God to = their adversaries without fear. They were well received by elders and others = in the community who wanted to know why they had come. The meetings went very = well. They were even able to pray with a sick woman they met on the way and = the next morning, she was completely well. The next step is another meeting this = Friday to talk about how to establish a church and continue teaching. The area = cannot be accessed by car. Men will travel up in order to meet with Charlie. = Praise the Lord for the way men are responding to fulfill God’s vision of reaching out to their neighbors, the Pokot.

Willie was the youngest of the 3 – 5 year old Mission Friends. Always
tagging along behind his older sister Julia, Willie never had much to say as
Julia always answered for him. “Willy doesn’t like that” or “Guess what Ms
Sara? Willy has on big boy underwear.” But Willie rarely said a word.

This year Julia moved up to CIA along with most of our other children and
Willie suddenly became the “older and wiser” experienced Mission Friend to
the group of much younger boys and girls. When they would cry he would tell
them he used to cry but now he is big, he doesn’t do that any more. He began
to say the prayer for missionaries and for snack!

I found out quickly Mission Friends have an attention span of about 3-4
minutes on a good day and respond well to “if we can listen to the
story..then. Ms Sara may have a surprise for you.”

This week’s surprise was to be looking at pictures from my missionary
friend’s trip to the Maasai Mara with lots of wild animals and pictures of
his “real” MK children.

After we looked at the pictures and I closed out the Facebook page (yes
Facebook can even be educational!) Willy pointed to the picture of a lone
African man mixed among the pictures. I had looked at the picture before
and the man was HIV + and his family had all died. The caption said “I know
God loves me. My wife is dead, my children are dead, but I am not dead yet.
So (today) I could hear news of the sacrifice that Jesus died for me.”

Willy said, “He looks sad. Why is he sad?” I had not planned to show them
this picture and was not sure how to answer Willy’s question, so I just read
the caption. Willy immediately said, “We should pray for him.” I replied
to Willy that he was right. He adamantly cried “NO, we need to pray now!”
I asked if he wanted me to pray or did he want to. He replied he would
pray.

We all bowed our heads. Willy’s prayer: “Dear God, Thank you for the
missionaries to tell all the people of the world about Jesus. Help the man
get better, Lord and give him a new lung and help his heart so he can smile.
I love you Jesus, Amen.” Well, my helper and I were undone. Willy’s
grandfather had been very ill so Willy knew what it meant to be sick unto
death. We prayed a lot for his grandfather and he received a new lung and
was doing great. Willie associated the sadness of illness to needing a new
lung. But he also associated the sadness of lostness to needing a new
heart. And Willy learned in Mission Friends we send our SBC missionaries to
share the good news of a true heart transplant with the world.

Willy noticed my tears and said “It is ok Ms. Sara, it’s good” and he gave a
little thumbs and then hopped up and turned from mighty prayer warrior back
into a just turned 4 year old.

Maybe I didn’t hear my call to Mission Friends correctly but someone told me
way back when, maybe my GA leader.that God expects our obedience regardless
of how he calls us and we don’t need to dissect and analyze the call, just
obey. And I am so glad he called me to “Mission Friends”.

After hearing the Gospel of Jesus, a Samburu warrior went to the home of one
of our Samburu leaders. He said, “I’m very sorry that I told my family
‘don’t go to the church. There are bad people there.’ But now I have heard
the truth. Before I didn’t know what I was doing. Since you and your friend
have told me the News of God, I have now come to know Jesus as my Lord and I
have decided to follow him.”
Last Sunday this warrior and his whole family attended church together.

* Please continue to pray for pastors and church members of new churches to mature in their faith. Pray for each to use their gifts to strengthen the body of believers. Discernment is needed as other groups and false teachings try to creep in and pervert the True Word.

* Praise the Lord! My mother and her friend arrived safe and sound in Nairobi and we are enjoying a wonderful visit. Pray for their continued good health, safety and enjoyment of their time in Africa.
