When Mare’s (MAH-ray) 3 year old became sick, she and her husband took him to the district hospital. Because of the nature or severity of the illness, he did not improve. The family gathered all their resources to travel to a different hospital in the hopes that their son would be made well. Even at a charity hospital, things were tight for the family. When the money ran out, the parents had no choice but to leave the toddler at the hospital, in the care of the staff, and return to their home in a far away village. Sometime later, they received news from one of the nurses that the child had died. In accordance with custom, and unable to afford an alternative, they did not retrieve the body for burial. They mourned for him and life in an African village continued on.
Ten years pass. Mare hears the story of redemption and salvation through Jesus Christ and becomes a believer. Soon afterward, God speaks to her with a shocking revelation. “The child you lost is not dead. He is alive.” Mare and her friends from church begin to pray. After a week of praying, news is received from a man who tells them the child they thought was gone, is indeed, living. And now the son, whom they lost so many years ago, has been returned to them.
God is still in the miracle business. Praise Him!
