March update
Posted on March 12, 2008 - Filed Under Prayer Requests
We are now less than 3 weeks away from returning to Kenya and each day seems to pass so quickly. We are looking forward to being in our home in Maralal, but we will miss our family here. We have had some great times and met some wonderful people during our Stateside Assignment. We have lots of good memories to take back with us and we are grateful for that. During these last weeks we hope to be able to spend lots of time with Travis, have some good chats with Sam on the phone and make a few more memories. Pray for us as we go through the typical goodbye emotions. And remember our parents in prayer, as well. It doesn’t get any easier, just because you’ve done it a couple times already. Thanks for continuing to pray for Sam and for Travis as they remain here in the States.
While things in Kenya have settled down considerably, there are still hundreds of thousands of people living in camps. We have no idea how long it will take to resolve the long term issues. If you wish to follow the situation, you can read the Kenyan news at www.nationmedia.com

The days dwindle down

We are coming much closer to the end of our Stateside time with our departure scheduled for March 30th. We are looking forward to returning to Kenya, while we know we will miss our family and friends here. There are also so many fun things to do here and we are taking advantage of that. Today, for example I went to an estate sale. While there, I met a woman from S. Africa. We enjoyed visiting with each other as we both got to talk with someone who understood African issues. Very rarely do you meet someone in the States who keeps up with African goings on. As she spoke of her beloved country in her gentle accent, I was reminded of the trips we’ve made and the friends we have there. What a blessing. Read more

Friends,Kenya really needs your prayers right now. People are suffering as a result of post-election violence and just this week, an elected official has been shot and killed. Approximately 600 Kenyans have lost their lives and around 200,000 have been displaced and are living in temporary camps. For more information, you can follow the links below. One is to the International Mission Board and the other is a Kenyan newspaper. Thanks for your prayers. sandra

We are beginning to plan and prepare for our return to Kenya at the end of March. We’ve had some good times and are beginning to feel refreshed and rested. We continue to watch the news in Kenya and pray they will find resolution and peace. Violent outbreaks continue to occur sporadically in different areas so we ask that you keep Kenya and it’s people in your prayers.
Our road trip through Tennessee and into Virginia to drop Sam at Liberty University was a success. All 3 Daniels brothers and mom and dad made the trip and I think it was a memory-maker for everyone. We visited with old friends in Tennessee and also met new ones that we had only known through emails and gifts. It was a blessing to be with the folks from New Vision Baptist Church and we talked a bit about some future ministry with them. Please pray that God will direct all our paths as we plan our next few years of service in Kenya. Read more

FIELD-REPORT: A concern for Kenya
By: Sue Sprenkle
Original article can be found here, http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?Id=27126.NAIROBI, Kenya (BP)–Few cars pass as we walk the many miles from my house to the City Centre of Nairobi, Kenya. Finally, a yellow-striped matatu stops and we hop aboard the unusually empty mini-bus taxi.
Amid the clatter and clanging of the rundown bus, my friend leans over and whispers: “It is best to say you lost your identity card if anyone stops us.”
The only other passenger nods his head vigorously in agreement. He explains that if people storm the bus you never know which side they support, referring to ongoing post-election violence in Kenya. Read more
Pray for Kenya

The National Council of Churches of Kenya has declared tomorrow, Sunday, December 6th, a national day of prayer. One of the local newspapers, The Daily Nation, carried the following full page advertisement today from the Media Council of Kenya:* * * * * * *
PRAYERS FOR PEACE
– Kenyans Unite –
This Sunday, from 6-7pm, all of Kenya’s major media channels will unite for a one-hour national Broadcast to pray for the salvation of Kenya. Many religious leaders from all faiths will lead the nation in prayer to help end the suffering and to heal the wounds of hatred that is ripping our country apart. Special appeals for aid for our unfortunate brothers and sisters who lost their homes and livelihoods will be included in the programme, as will on-going prayers for our political leaders…Add your prayers to those of the millions of Kenyans who will be tuning in to the broadcast and, together, our prayers will help bring Kenya back to the beautiful, united nation we all love. December update from the Daniels

The time is flying like reindeer on Christmas Eve. We have had some great days and spent many of them traveling to visit with old friends, family and meeting new folks. We have had the great privilege of telling the story of the Samburu people with the desire that many will remember to “pray for the saints” as Paul urged us to do.
Yesterday was a fun-filled special day as we took Joseph to the local mall to meet Santa. We got the top of all treats with this Santa Claus as he is also a great story teller. He shared an old Scandanavian tale and a funny story about one of his elves at the North Pole named “Trouble.” Afterward, he greeted the kids one on one and Joseph told Santa what he wanted for Christmas. We made a surprise trip to Build a Bear Workshop for a stuffed Rudolph and there was even a model train exhibit. It was an exciting time for Joseph and we were so blessed to be able to spend this time doing things we would never be able to do in Kenya. It is a Christmas season we will all remember.
With Christmas getting nearer, it also means the weeks are growing short until Sam heads off to Virginia and Liberty University. We are excited about this new beginning, but also know that we will all greatly miss him. Personally, I am ready for some months that don’t have anything going on or coming up that yank my heartstrings or blow my mind. That doesn’t seem to be what life is about right now, however. Maybe that is what characterizes “mid-life”. Those of you who have already passed this stage, feel free to let me know when I can expect a reprieve! I praise God that I know His grace is always sufficient and I am grateful for His abundant kindness and mercy which has overflowed to me.
We also thank all of you who give to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. Your generosity makes it possible for us to live among a people who cannot read and have very little access to the Gospel. We are there because you give. It’s as simple as that. We can go to the unreached places and bring God’s story to a people who have never heard. We have a safe vehicle, a secure home, a fantastic support team, excellent medical care…all of this because Southern Baptists care about bringing the Story of Jesus to the Nations of the World. We promise to do our part and we thank you for doing yours. God bless and Merry Christmas! The Daniels

SHORT DAYS AT HOME
By the time you receive this newsletter, we will most probably be in Nairobi. It is odd to think that we have only 4 more days left in Maralal. Four more days of life in the village, where every day passes much the same as the one before. The nights are quiet and dark and the difference in days is sometimes marked by the absence or presence of water or electricity or how many people had which needs to bring to us today. Read more
